According to early Spanish tradition, the Virgin appears in Zaragoza to the Apostle James while she is still living in Jerusalem, standing upon a column of jasper and encouraging him in his mission to preach in Iberia. The appearance is not tied to conversion or crisis, but to reinforcement — strength given at a moment of discouragement as the foundations of the Church are laid.
