Banner message reported in the apparition, Pontmain, 1871
On January 17, 1871, during the Franco-Prussian War, children in the village of Pontmain report seeing a woman appear in the night sky above a barn. She is described wearing a deep blue gown covered with gold stars, a black veil, and a golden crown. As villagers gather, the vision expands: stars multiply around her, a banner forms beneath her with a written message, and a red crucifix appears in her hands before the image gradually fades. That same night, the advance of Prussian forces halts, and within days an armistice is declared. Rendered in deep blue gown covered in gold stars, black veil, golden crown, star-filled night sky.
